High note trail starts at the top of the Whistler Peak chairlift, and finishes at the Whistler gondola. It's in the sub-alpine and alpine of Whistler, and offers gorgeous views of Cheakamus lake and Garibaldi park. It is only open in the summer, and takes between 4 and 5 hours to complete. Some of the terrain, in particular at the beginning of the trail, is harder because of loose rocks and gravel, and steep portions. You can take a bath at Symphony and Harmony lakes, which is refreshing on hot summer days! On bad weather days, it is not worth it. Bring some mosquito repellant and sun screen!

You will need a sightseeing ticket to get there. Take the Gondola in the village, then go to the chairlift. It usually opens around 11AM. The alternative is to do it in the other direction, which will reduce the number of people you will see, but adds more than 300m of positive incline.

The path is very well signed, and there are few crossings. Keep following High Note trail signs.

There are two options along the trail:

  1. After 1.5h or so of hiking, you will encounter a crossing between High-note and Half-note. Half note is shorter, you can take that option if you feel tired and want to go back to base.
  2. 1/2h to 1h later, you will encounter another crossing that optionally allows you to go to Flute summit. This is an alpine area that will give you good views on the Fissile, the Overlord glacier, and the Spearhead range generally. It adds a bit over 100m elevation, and about 1/2h of hiking.
